Product Review

O'nin Room Divider

For at least a year I have been eyeballing a book case at Ikea that seems to be the storage solution I need. It is the Expedit Storage System. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10103088/
The problem was actually getting it! We do not live close to an Ikea Store. The shipping for the item exceeds the price of the item itself. Not only that, but each strorage bin or drawer had to be purchase separately. It was going to be expensive. But nevertheless I would often go online, check in and make sure they still had it...just in case! You know?

I am fortunate to have the human version of Google for a friend. I often go to her with my questions. She thoughtfully listens.....processes the information, and Voila! out pops a solution. The latest quandary that I found myself in, was how to organize for homeschooling. I explained that I didn't want my living room to look like a kindergarten class. I stated my dilemma with the Ikea system. I described in full detail what it looked like.......and out popped the solution, "Oh you mean, like the one at Costco?" "The one at Costco," I wondered?  Within days I made the trip. And there it was. The O'nin Room Divider, an Eight Cube Shelving Unit. Not only was it attractive but it was handsomely priced at $109.00. Did I mention it comes with the Canvas drawers? Eight of them! And as if that were not enough, they have a clear pocket on the front and back of each that holds a large label. Gone are the days of figuring out what goes where. I found a picture from an old Costco Magazine, http://www.costcoconnection.com/connection/201101/?pg=100#pg100

Putting it together

The Instructions were clear and concise. The shelving parts were labeled by letter. The hardware was organized and labeled. There were extra bolts and washers. There were detailed pictures and descriptions. I recommend reading the Instructions once over before beginning. Set each piece on a surface that cannot scratch the finish. Be careful of laying pieces on the open box, as there are large staples with sharp edges. Simply removing these will correct that potential problem. Inspect all pieces BEFORE beginning. There is nothing like getting to the last piece and seeing that a chunk is missing. But in this case the packaging was good and there was no defect.

Conclusion

If you are looking for an alternative to the Ikea Expedit Bookcase, this may be just what you are looking for. It was in my case. The bins are deep enough to hold textbooks, and paperwork. It is attractive and uncluttered. I can find exactly what a need in a hurry, because each compartment is neatly labeled. It can be combined with  a few units, to create a nice display. The Con I suppose would be that it only comes in a dark espresso finish. Other than that, there are not any for me. It was just what I needed at the price I  was more than willing to pay. Once again, Thank you Costco.
